Frequently Asked Questions
How is my information used?
See our Privacy policy.
Will we receive replies to our letters?
Unfortunately replies are not currently possible because of safety issues.
How are the recipients of the letters chosen?
Words for the World reaches out and partners with various organizations so that letters can reach those who need them. If you have any suggestions or requests for letters, please don't hesitate to reach out to [email protected]. We cannot give any guarantees but we will try out best.
Will I receive volunteer hours?
We currently only offer volunteer hours to letter-writers in chapters. Chapter-affiliated volunteers can receive 30 minutes per letter sent. We work with chapter heads to devise a plan for giving volunteer hours that meets the needs of the members.
Can I put multiple letters in a single envelope?
Absolutely! We open all envelopes before sending them to their recipients so you don't have to worry about us counting two letters in one envelope as one letter.
What happens to the letters once they are sent to Words for the World?
Once we receive your letters, we proofread the letters to confirm that they follow guidelines. Then we communicate with the chapter head or the individual that we have received the letters. Finally, we send the letters off to the recipients. We make sure that your personal information including your name, address, and age are not disclosed to those receiving letters.
What happens if there's a problem with USPS?
Problems with USPS are unfortunately not within our control. If letters are delivered later than expected we will still find a way to make use of them and will still grant volunteer hours. In the case of lost mail, we cannot provide any support.
