Our Story
It initially started as a small letter-writing club at my online high school—I figured it was a good way to keep people connected. Then somewhere along the line I realized that letters are powerful. I wanted to spread the joy of opening an envelope and reading beautiful thought-out words—they create a special warm feeling inside of you. Rayun and I founded Words for the World because we wanted to share this feeling. We believe that letters can bring love, joy, and hope to the world.
During the quarantine, when everything was unpredictable and unstable, having a penpal was an incredible source of joy for me. As the world came to a standstill and face-to-face interactions became scarce, exchanging letters with my penpal brought a sense of relief and anticipation. I wanted to be able to share that joy with others, show others the warmth I felt, and that even if they may not be able to make friends face-to-face, there is still beauty in human connection.
